Walk Around Ashover – 3-4 miles steady going.

Walk details:  Start in Holymoorside and climb through woods, fields and a golf course to the ridge at Stone Edge (near Red Lion) for a great view of Chesterfield, then back down to the Bull’s Head pub at Holymoorside through woods and a sandy track.

Start Point:  Outside The Bull’s Head pub in Holymoorside

Distance:  4 miles

Difficulty:  Hard – plenty of brisk, uphill climb.  Walking boots and long trousers recommended as there’s the usual brambles and nettles.

Walk details:  Ashover, including Ashover Rock

Start Point:  Ashover car park, opposite the Black Swan

Distance:  3.5 miles

Difficulty:  There’s a short incline up to Ashover Rock…the rest is easy!  Supportive shoes and long trousers advisable as the ground is very uneven in places and lots of nettles around stiles.

Start Point:  Nethermoor Road, close to Smithy Pond (Wingerworth)

Difficulty:  Mainly clear paths and quiet lanes. Some steady ascents, one long steep descent.

The newly formed Chesterfield Wildlife Trust local group are hosting a guided nature walk around Carr Vale Nature Reserve on Tuesday 30th June at 7 pm. The meeting point is the County Council’s Stockley Trail Car Park on the small business park accessed from the roundabout on the A632 at the bottom of Bolsover Hill. Grid Reference: 463 707
